ABOUT DR JIM BYRNE
Jim Byrne is a counsellor who offers counselling help in Halifax and Hebden Bridge, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, UK; and all over the world via the telephone and computer networks.

ABOUT CENT
Cognitive Emotive Narrative Therapy (CENT) combines elements of Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT), general Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Zen Philosophy, and Object Relations theory, to help clients to resolve their emotional, behavioural and relationship problems quickly and efficiently.

ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
Jim Byrne uses CENT to help people to overcome their anger, anxiety, depression, stress, low self esteem, couple conflict, and general emotional misery, behavioural dysfunction and poor thinking skills. His clients acquire greater emotional intelligence, resilience and coping capability.

THE KEY EQUATION
Happiness (or calm serenity) plus success (or some level of meaningful goal achievement) plus mutually satisfying relationships (at least one) equals "good mental health".

Introduction

Most people do not seem to be interested in long texts, and elaborated explanations. We are all so much in a rush these days that we want a quick guide to what to do which will make a quick difference.

Later on, we tell ourselves, we will return to this and do some more. So here is my attempt to help you to get some quick relief from the symptoms of intense anger and rage. Those emotions are a curse and can ruin our daily lives, at home and at work.

What are the four steps that you can quickly take to get your anger under control?

COGNITIVE THERAPY AND MINDFULNESS TRAINING

Question: Why are mindfulness and cognitive therapy such a good marriage for mental health?

Zindel: Both these approaches help the person changes their relationship to thinking.  In cognitive therapy, using the Thought Record allows a thought to be considered as an idea or a hypothesis that can be examined from different viewpoints - evidence supporting it and evidence not supporting it.  This may suggest that our thoughts, when we notice them, are provisional and that we do not have to engage with them at the level of content.  In mindfulness practice, watching thoughts arise, rest and move through the mind allows a similar awareness of thinking as something that can be observed and does not have to be engaged with.   Recognizing that we can choose to step out of unhelpful automatic and habitual thought patterns, helps reduce our reactivity and allows us to deal more skillfully with challenges in our lives.  (Available online: http://tiny.cc/8eqMT.  Accessed: 25th October 2009)
